KEY CHALLENGES

Citizen service requests outpacing staffing
Request volumes grow faster than agencies can hire.
Procurement and budget cycles that slow adoption
Long approval cycles make agile technology adoption hard.
Legacy systems with decades of undocumented logic
Institutional knowledge often lives only in old code.
Transparency requirements at every step
Decisions need to be explainable to the public, not just auditors.
Security standards that leave little room for error
Public infrastructure is a high-value target by default.

Housing-repairs case management for a London borough council

London borough council

Challenge
Tenants reported repairs by phone or email, which contact-centre staff logged in one system while the repairs contractor worked from another. Residents chased updates because nobody could see both sides, and the council's housing ombudsman complaints had doubled over two years, mostly about communication.
Solution
We built a repairs case-management module in the council's Dynamics 365 environment, with a Power App for the contractor's operatives and automated text updates to residents at each stage. Every contact, visit and photo sits on one case, and overdue jobs escalate to a housing officer automatically.
Results
  • Repairs-related ombudsman complaints down 46% year on year
  • Chase calls about repairs reduced by roughly 1,800 a month
  • Rolled out to 9,000 properties in 12 weeks

Permit-application completeness checks for a Texas county

County government, central Texas

Challenge
Building permit applications arrived as PDF bundles and sat in a queue for up to three weeks before a plans examiner opened them, at which point about a third were sent back for missing site plans, signatures or fee receipts. Applicants then waited through the queue a second time.
Solution
We built an agent that checks each submission against the county's published checklist within minutes of arrival, lists what is missing in plain language, and emails the applicant. Complete applications are queued for examiners with a summary sheet. Examiners keep every substantive decision; the agent only checks completeness.
Results
  • Applications returned for missing items dropped from 34% to 9%
  • Applicants notified of gaps within 1 hour instead of 3 weeks
  • Examiner time on intake reduced by about 15 hours a week

Planning-applications portal for a district council

District council, South East England

Challenge
The council's public planning register ran on a server in the basement, fell over during busy consultations, and displayed documents in a way that residents found hard to search. Comments were submitted by email and copied into the case file by hand, which took a planning officer most of Monday.
Solution
We rebuilt the planning portal on a managed cloud platform with a searchable register, map-based browsing and a structured comment form that files directly against the application. Officers moderate comments from a queue; the old server was decommissioned after a three-month parallel run.
Results
  • Portal uptime during consultations at 99.9% over the first year
  • Comment handling reduced from most of a day to 45 minutes weekly
  • Public document searches up 3x with no increase in phone enquiries

Public-records request redaction MVP for a state transport agency

State transportation agency, Southwest US

Challenge
The records office handled around 250 public-records requests a month, and the slowest step was reading every page to redact personal information before release. Two staff spent most of their week on it, and responses regularly exceeded the statutory deadline when large incident files were requested.
Solution
In a ten-week MVP we built a tool that proposes redactions for names, addresses, licence numbers and medical details, showing each one in context for a records officer to accept or reject. Nothing is released without review, and the reviewed document is compared against the proposal to measure accuracy.
Results
  • Page review time cut from 4 minutes to under 1 on average
  • Requests answered past the statutory deadline down from 18% to 4%
  • Officer agreement with proposed redactions at 94% by week 10

FAQ

Public Sector + agentic AI: questions, answered.

How can AI agents help government agencies handle rising citizen service demand?

AGS agents route and resolve citizen service requests as volumes outpace staffing, processing routine casework and applications with a defensible decision record. Agents layer onto legacy systems without a rip-and-replace programme, so agencies scale service without a long procurement cycle. Every step is logged for public accountability, keeping speed and oversight in balance.

Is autonomous AI transparent enough for public-sector accountability?

Yes. Transparency comes first in the public sector: every automated decision AGS agents make is explainable and reversible, for citizen and oversight alike. Agents operate inside strict guardrails with a public-record-grade audit trail, so decisions can be contested and reviewed. Certified to ISO 27001 and SOC 2, with action-level logs on every agent deployed.

What government casework and citizen services can AGS automate?

AGS automates routine casework, application processing, service-request routing, and back-office compliance workflows for government agencies. Agents handle the high-volume, rules-based work under least-privilege access while staff focus on judgment calls. Each automated decision carries an explainable record, so nothing an agent does is a decision without an audit trail behind it.

How does AGS meet public-sector security and compliance standards?

AGS agents run inside governance frameworks built for public accountability, with least-privilege identity, action-level audit logs, and reversibility on every step. Because public infrastructure is a high-value target, access controls and assessments are hardened to public-sector security standards. Certified to ISO 27001 and SOC 2, so automation clears the bar auditors set.

Can autonomous agents modernise legacy government systems without replacing them?

Yes. AGS layers autonomy onto legacy systems that hold decades of undocumented logic, without a rip-and-replace programme. Agents operate through existing interfaces under controlled access, modernising how casework and services run while systems of record stay in place. Careful, low-risk modernisation keeps live public services available throughout.
